USING AN IMAGE TO CREATE A PATTERN
The above image means my name(Puja)
in Bengali
and here I have created an abstract pattern using
a part of the previous image

In this exercise, I have experimented fun ways of
creating repeats out of a single image/unit.
OBLIQUE REPEAT: rotating the repeat unit by 45 deg and placing it in a grid where every unit is at an 45 deg angle to each other
180 DEGREE ROTATION: mirroring the initial single unit and then setting it in a straight repeat pattern.
The best part about this repeat pattern it doesn't require much thought process during making the unit. As, any sort of motif or image when placed in the mirror repeat will always form an interesting pattern.
90 DEGREE ROTATION: Here, a floral motif is rotated at 90 degrees keeping the rotation axis at the bottom right corner of the unit. The final single unit is double the size of the initial unit, like if u initial repeat unit is 1"*1" in size and setting this orientation the final repeat will be 2"*2". After this place the repeat unit in the basic straight repeat pattern.
DOUBLE MIRROR REPEAT: As the name says, in this method we have used mirror technique twice. Once the motif is mirrored horizontally and then the whole unit is mirrored vertically too. This now makes our final single unit and it is ready to put in the straight repeat.Likewise my friends, many other repeat styles are possible Single mirror repeat, Mirror and rotate, Rotate at 60 degrees, Half Brick repeat and many more. Just go crazy and use all permutations and combinations. And yes, I believe CorelDraw is the best software for creating repeats and patterns, and honestly, I have no intentions of deliberately promoting Corel if you may think so. Happy Patterning!

I like the prints for bed collection & later on the patterns.
